- Pennycress has been collected in all mountain regions of the Watershed—a plant adapted to both rocky and grassy habitats in the subalpine and alpine zones. Noccaea fendleri is present everywhere west of the Great Plains, with the exception of southern California. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico and on to the Big Bend country of Texas.
