- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. In the Watershed there is only one formal observation for field pep)perweed, found in the Baca NWR (Saguace Co, 2012. The plant is exotic to the USA, and prefers anthropogenic areas, although elsewhere in Colorado occasionally it can be found naturalized in dry, open meadows. In the USA Lepidium campestre is most concentrated in the Midwest and New England states, but there are scattered locations in every other state except for North and South Dakota. BONAP shows it as far south as Sierra Co of New Mexico, but no farther along the Rio Grande drainage. It is native to Europe, where there have been efforts to cultivate it as a source of oilseed.
