- Mesa pepperweed is common in foothills on both sides of the Watershed, but also extending down into the drier parts of the Basin and up into the higher montane. Ranging through the USA desert Southwest, it follows the Rio Grande drainage down through New Mexico and a little beyond the Big Bend country of Texas,
