- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. From the Watershed there is only one collection, from the Medano Zapata Ranch near Mosca and the Great Sand Dunes; “Big Spring Creek at Indian Spring, wetland surrounding spring-fed pond” (note that the voucher's geo-coordinates are incorrect). The plant has also been collected a few times in Gunnison and Grand counties of Colorado. These locations are isolated to the east of the main USA distribution, which centers in Nevada and southern California and extends to temperate regions of all the Western states. Hornungia procumbens has been found in San Juan county of New Mexico, in the San Juan River drainage—but nowhere else in New Mexico (or Texas). It is a small thin plant to be found in alkali and salt playas and in sagebrush plains, and more occurrences may be expected from the Watershed Basin.
