- In the Watershed, Heller's draba has been collected only from the south San Juans, from Wagon Wheel Gap southwards. Habitats include alpine meadows down to montane mixed-conifer openings and stream sides. Sharples (2017) found it "common in open areas" at elevations of 8,400', 11,500', and 12,000' in the South San Juan Wilderness of Conejos and Archuleta counties. The Watershed is at the northeast corner of the USA distribution, which is otherwise New Mexico and Arizona. In New Mexico it follows the Rio Grande drainage to the Mexican border, but not into Texas.
