- Snowbed draba is the most commonly collected alpine Draba in the Watershed, found in all mountain regions. A typical habitat of Draba crassifolia is rocky ground among Krummholz. The species is quite variable. Lower elevation specimens tend to be larger, with longer, narrower basal leaves. Tundra plants can be as small as two inches high. Basal leaves can be glabrous or not, denticulate or not, with forked trichomes or not. Universal features are glabrous and leafless stems, rosette of basal leaves, and lack of caudex (rootstock). The Watershed records come from the southeast corner of the USA distribution, which roughly follows the Rocky Mountains, with high elevation locations in the Intermountain region. Sparse records from Rio Arriba, Taos, and Colfax counties of north New Mexico map its most southern reach.
