Boechera stricta is by far the most commonly collected Boechera in the Watershed, found in all mountain regions, from montane to tundra. It is also one of the most easily identified of Watershed rockcresses, distinguished from the others with its strongly auriculate leaf bases, glabrous and erect fruit, and basal leaf surfaces with dolabriform hairs. A sexual diploid, it forms apomictic hybrids with many other species of Boechera. It is found in all USA states west of the Great Plains and across the northern USA all the way to Maine. It follows the Rio Grande drainage only about halfway down New Mexico. For more photographs and comment, click "yes" in the Annotation field below.
