- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Symphytum officinale has only one Watershed location, in the Baca National Wildlife Refuge (2017). As was the one comfrey plant recorded from New Mexico, in Santa Fe Co, this Watershed occurrence was probably a garden escape with low odds of persisting. Escapes have been recorded in about half the states of the USA—with a salient lacuna of the Great Plains.
