- Of miner's candle, the six Watershed collections are from the north part of the Valley, in the north Cristos or in the Garitas and south Sawatch hills: 12 miles N of La Garita (Saguache Co, 1992), 20 miles NWN of Saguache (Saguache Co, 1998), Penitente Canyon, 2015), Flat Top Mountain (Conejos Co, 1986), Rock Creek (Rio Grande Co, 1992), the stabilized dunes of the Great Sand Dune NP (Alamosa Co, 1972) The plant prefers pinyon-juniper foothills and is found only in the Rockies of Colorado and Wyoming, with most collections coming from the Front Range.
