- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS Of slender goldenweed there are only two Watershed records: Wolf Creek Pass (1935), and about 16 miles W of Antonito in Conejos Co (1967). The main distribution in Colorado is in the Four Corners region. It is a Southwestern plant, primarily of Arizona and New Mexico, but it does follow the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico to the border of Mexico, and on down to the Big Bend country of Texas. Note that that X. gracile is an annual with simple dentate leaves and X. spinulosum (very common in the Watershed) is a perennial with a woody base and pinnate leaves—differences that should be readily discernible in the field. Note that recently (June 2026) POWO has declared that the genus Xanthisma is a synonym of Sideranthus.
