- Tetraneuris acaulis var. caespitosa has been often recorded from the subalpine and alpine in both the east and west mountain ranges. It also occurs at lower elevations, for instance in the Lower Basin San Luis Hills (1998, 2014), and on a rocky saddle just W of Del Norte (2014-2021). It lacks the longer stem of T. acaulis var. acaulis. Allred et al. (2020) describe this variety from the northern mountains of New Mexico, presumably not farther down the Rio Grande drainage. The USA distribution of T. acaulis covers the Rocky Mountainand intermountain states.
