- There are only two records of Symphyotrichum porteri from the Watershed. The Sherman Lake phoatorecord (2015) would be a second, and would add Rio Grande to the counties indicated in Ackerfield (2022) and BONAP (2022). (Note that the 1971 voucher labeled from “Buckthorn Creek Ca. 8 mi NW Massonville,” is from Buckhorn Creek in Latimer Co.) Symphyotrichum porteri is chiefly an east-slope Rockies flower of Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico. The occurrences in New Mexico lie in the Canadian River drainage, which flows into the Arkansas River, not the Rio Grande. So the Watershed locations would be the only ones recorded from the entire Rio Grande drainage.
