- Leafy aster is common at the montane and upper montane along streams and in moist meadows. The Watershed distribution of records is almost entirely in the south San Juans, with one record from a little NW of Alamosa (Dixon coll) and one from the foot of Medano Creek (Dixon coll). Symphyotrichum foliaceum follows the Rio Grande drainage two-thirds of the way down New Meixco. The USA distribution runs from the Front Range piedmont westward, covering all Western states. Note that recorded from the Watershed are S. foliaceum subsp. canby, subsp. parryi, and the high-elevation subsp. apricum.
