- In the Watershed this wirelettuce is basically a foothill plant, although occasionally it extends up into the lower montane (for instance, there is a photorecord from Carnero Creek, 6 miles W of La Garita, 2020). Stephanomeria pauciflora is common in the Valley, on both sides. It is mainly a Southwest USA plant, although it does extend into the western Great Plains. A peek at its plumose pappus will distinguish it from its look-alike, Lygodesmia juncea. It is very common throughout New Mexico, and follows the Rio Grande drainage to the Big Bend country of Texas.
