- Of three-nerve goldenrod there are relatively few collections from the Watershed, most from the mountains on the west of the Valley. The species is common in most counties of Colorado (less the far-east Plains ones), but the USA distribution lies mainly to the southwest of the Watershed, occupying the southern two thirds of the West. Solidago velutina runs solidly down through the New Mexico Rio Grande drainage, and continues on down stream through the Big Bend country of Texas. Note that features of S. velutina are quite variable and have generated a large number of proposed varieties, subspecies, and genera.
