- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. In the Watershed Solidago lepida is a foothill riparian plant following streams sometimes up into the montane, for instance at Wagon Wheel Gap, in the Baca NWR, along Hwy 160 by Sangre de Cristo Creek, or at Mogote cpgd along the Conejos River. Possibly it was more common in the Basin before modern agricultural development. This is a widespread goldenrod in all USA states W of the Great Plains. It follows the Rio Grande drainage in New Mexico down to the Mexican border (but no farther down stream). For the change of nomenclature, assigning Solidago lepida to these regions and S. canadensis to the Eastern USA, see Semple et al. (2013). Note that there may be two varieties of S. lepida in the Watershed: S. lepida var. lepida, and S. lepida var. salebrosa. The second Ackerfield (2022) names S. elongata, showing two distribution points near the border of Mineral and Rio Grande counties. Most authorities, however, restrict S. elongata to the West coast states (e.g., FNA, BONAP).
