- For Wooton's ragwort there are only a few records from the east side of the Watershed (Piñon Flats in the Great Sand Dunes; Culebra Creek in Costlla Co), but it is collected frquently on the west side, usually found in forest openings but occasionally along roadsides. Its USA distribution is restricted to the mountain ranges of Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico, where it follows the mountains on both sides of the Rio Grande down through the state to the border with Mexico, with rare occurrences just before the Big Bend country of Texas (Jeff Davis Co). Note that Hogan and Elliot (2022) in their survey of the wilderness of the North Cristos, found this species only on the east slopes.
