- Although widespread in the US—with a scattered presence in all states except for California, Nevada, Utah, Texas, and Louisiana—balsam groundsel is uncommon in the Watershed. There are only three records: Carnero Creek (Saguache Co); East Pass Creek (Saguache Co); and Culebra Canyon (Costilla Co). BONAP (2022) and Ackerfield (2015) show Mineral Co with no vouchers in SEINet. In New Mexico, it has only a few Rio Grande drainage locations, in Sierra and Otero counties. Packera paupercula is found near creeks or ponds. It is an extremely variable species.
