- The Watershed locations for Packera cana are all in the west-side mountains, except for three in the north Cristos: The Great Sand DunesNP, Zapata Falls, and Holbrook Canyon on the slopes of Mt. Blanca. One neighboring location, often collected, is the ash beds just W of Cochetopa pass, in the San Juan drainage. The USA distribution covers all states west of the Great Plains and eastern parts of the northern Great Plains. Woolly groundsel follows the Rio Grand drainage only as far as Sandoval Co, New Mexico. Note that the species sometimes can be hard to distinguish from P. thurberi [P. neomexicana].
