- Nuttall's sunflower has not been frequently recorded from the Watershed, but locally it persists in mesic habitats such as ditches, barrow pits, stream sides, and wet meadows. It was collected at the seep 12.7 miles W of Saguache on Hwy 114 (“Ball Arroyo”) in 1916, 1984 and 2019. A recent observation was by San Francisco Creek 3 miles south of its confluence with the Rio Grande (Rio Grande Co, Sept 2024). In the USA its distribution is centered in the Rockies but extends in scattered pockets into the Great Plains and east to the Mississippi River. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico to the border with Mexico, but no farther.
