- Of Erigeron ursinus there are less than a dozen Watershed collections, from the western ranges of the Valley and from the north Cristos. Sharples (2017) says it is rare in the subalpine of the South San Juan Wilderness Area, and reports it for the first time from Conejos Co. This high elevation Erigeron is reported from the Cristos of New Mexico, marking the SE limit of its range, but the Erigeron expert Guy Nesom says the identifications are doubtful (Allred, Jercinovic, & Ivey 2020). BONAP, however, shows the Rio Grande drainage counties of Rio Arriba and Bernalillo in New Mexico. The primary USA distribution includes the Southern and Central Rockies and most of the high country of Utah. The species is a distinctive Erigeron, with rhizomatic branches, petiolate leaves, and purple-tipped phyllaries.
