- Erigeron melanocephalos has been often collected in subalpine and alpine meadows of the Watershed, but there is only one record from the La Garitas and none from the south Sawatch Range. The Colorado distribution, however, does extend through the Southern and Central Rocky Mountains up to the Montana border. In New Mexico it occurs in the Rio Grande drainage down only to Santa Fe Co. The villous stem with black cross-walls in the hairs near the inflorescence is distinctive.
