- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS In the western-slope counties of Colorado, Erigeron engelmannii has been collected often since the late nineteenth century. Yet there are few collections from the Watershed (all but one from the west side) and those only recent ones. Some of these vouchers could bear re-examination. Note that the features separating E. engelmannii, E. vetensis, E. concinnus, and E. pumilus are microscopic and in the field not easily seen even with a hand lens (Nesom 1983). Exceptionally long and slender basal leaves will not distinguish E. engelmannii from E. concinnus and E. vetensis. The USA distribution is primarily the Central and South Rockies with extension into Utah and northeast Arizona and isolated locations in Idaho and northeast Oregon. BONAP shows the species in Sandoval Co, New Mexico, but not farther south in the Rio Grande drainage. Note that Nesom (1983) agrees with Conquist (1947) that some specimens of E. engelmannii from "west-central" Colorado have "somewhat spreading pubescence" on the stem, suggesting a hybridization with E. concinnus. Whether this intermediate form of E. engelmannii can be found in the Watershed remains to be seen.
