- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Tufted fleabane has been collected 9 times from the San Juan mountains of Hinsdale, Rio Grande, and Conejos counties, but only by one collector (2003-2004). Possibly there is an determination issue here. For instance, to distinguish Erigeron caespitosus from E. glabellus takes a magnified look at the phyllaries. BONAP accepts these records, but Ackerfield does not, who shows a distribution of E. caespitosus in Colorado confined to the NW edge. Note, however, that the species has been recorded from the Rio Grande drainage in New Mexico, in Colfax Co. Its main USA distribution is Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, but there are extension farther south into the high country of Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico.
