- Erigeron canus is a foothill and lower montane fleabane found on both sides of the Valley, preferring lightly wooded, rocky, and sometimes volcanic terrain. The 2019 Alder Creek photorecord would would add Rio Grande to counties indicated in Ackerfield (2022) and BONAP (2022). This species is present in the western Great Plains and Front Range from Wyoming to New Mexico, and farther west into Utah and Arizona. It follows the Rio Grande drainage two-thirds of the way down New Mexico but no farther.
