- Giant sumpweed is recorded from just outside the Valley in all directions and recorded from the Rio Grande drainage down through two-thirds of New Mexico. Yet to date there are no herbarium vouchers of Cyclachaena xanthiifolia from the Watershed. Ackerfield (2015, 2022) and BONAP (2022), however, show Costilla Co, with no vouchers in SEINet. A recent iNaturalist observation (#243158632, 21 Sept 2024) records it from the banks of the Rio Grande east of Antonito. And two other recent photorecords (2020, 2022) are from the Conejos River near Fox Creek, where currently the species appears to be established. So these photorecords would add Conejos to counties indicated in Ackerfield (2022) and BONAP (2022). The plant is wide spread throughout all of the USA except for the deep South, seemingly adventive east of the Plains.
