- Of the few records of Tracy's thistle from the Watershed, all are from Conejos Co (Ramaley’s early 1938 record from Alamosa Canyon has been confirmed by David Keil). The vouchers of Cirsium tracyi from Saguache, Hinsdale, and Mineral counties in SEINet all fall outside the Rio Grande watershed. The species prefers disturbed sagebrush flats and slopes. In the USA its distribution is confined to eastern Utah, northwestern Arizona, western Colorado, and northwestern New Mexico, where there are only a few collections from the Rio Grande drainage in Rio Arriba Co, near Tres Piedras. Note that the main distinction from C. undulatum—a much more common species in the Watershed—is the smaller flower heads.
