- Comments
- In the Watershed nodding beggarticks is mainly an Upper Basin wetland plant, collected rather often, that sometimes can be found growing in standing water. A recent record is from the Alamosa NWP (2023, iNaturalist observation #184801643). There are a few records from the Lower Basin: the Conejos River (1939), the Rio Grande (Conejos Co, 1954), a streambed S of Antonito (1956), and E of San Luis (1956). Bidens cernua is distributed throughout nearly the whole USA, and follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico nearly to the border with Mexico (but no farther). Note that the plant is beneficial for waterfowl, who eat the seeds.
