- In the Watershed, western sea purslane has been recorded from dry, flat Basin habitats—sometimes in abundant patches but from only a few locations. The most cited are the Baca NWR and the San Luis Lakes (e.g., Aug 2021, iNaturalist observation 90911730; July 2024, iNaturalist observation #228703457). Early records show the plant growing in ditches beside highways (e.g., Hwy 285 between Alamosa and La Jara), but not later records. Perhaps herbicide spraying has had something to do with this. In 1951, it was found growing beside the Adams State College football field. In New Mexico it grows in the saline and alkaline playas and floodplains of the Rio Grande in the southern half of the state, and follows the drainage through Texas to the Gulf. Its USA range is largely the Southwest.
