- Of Carruth's wormwood there are many collections from the Watershed. Only three, howeer, come from the east side: the Great Sand Dunes' visitor center (Alamosa Co), Mountain Home Reservoir (Costilla Co), and base of Baldy Peak near Ft. Garland (Costilla Co). In the USA, the plant is distributed throughout the Southwest on E into the Plains of Colorado, Kansas and the Texas panhandle. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico on a little past the Big Bend country of Texas.
