- Comments
- In the Watershed, collections of pearly everlasting are confined to the south San Juans, with none from the Cristos. However, it is recorded from the Rio Grande Cristos of New Mexico, following the drainage down to the Mexican border. The USA distribution is disjunct, with Western and Eastern ranges and no native occurrences in the Great Plains. Note that the species is quite variable, and has generated a number of scientific names and varieties. Also note the presence of a carpoopodium in Anaphalis margaritaceae, that is, an extension to the apex of the achene which may function as an eliaosome (food supplement for ants, who will eat the carpopodium and dispose of the rest of the still viable achene, thus helping disperse the species).
