NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. In the Watershed slender Russian thistle has just nine records, widely scattered, from both east and west sides of the Valley. One spot in the foothills, on the southern edge of the Great Sand Dunes NM, has rewarded several collectors. The FNA suggests that the distribution of Salsola collina may be underestimated because of the "common and constant confusion with deviant forms of S. tragus." Currently BONAP shows its presence largely in the Rocky Mountain states with scattered reports all the way east to New York. It has been recorded from the Rio Grande drainage down New Mexico into west Texas, found often in disturbed and waste land, "apparently expanding its ranges" (Allred et al. 2020).
