- Povertyweed is quite common on the west side of the Watershed but much less so from the east side (e.g., Hayden Pass Creek, Decker Creek). Blitum nuttallianum is widespread in all states west of the Great Plains. In the Plains the species is scattered, with other scanty locations east of the Missouri River. It has been recorded, in spots, through New Mexico and on down the Rio Grande drainage almost to the Gulf of Mexico. Note that Fuentes-Bazun et al. (2012) transferred Monolepis nuttalliana (along with Chenopodium capitatum and C. foliosum) into the genus Blitum. Some authorities, such as BONAP (2022), keep nuttalliana in Monolepis.
