Comments
In the Watershed, six of the seven vouchers for the exotic wienerleaf are from alkali flats of the Upper Basin (1986-2012); the other has a contradictory label, giving coordinates for a montane meadow SW of Saguache (Browns Park) and an elevation 3,000’ lower than that location (1987). Native to Asia, Halogeton glomeratus adapts to ruderal alkaline flats. It is quite poisonous to livestock, especially sheep. It is on Colorado's C list of "noxious weeds." It has been recorded from all USA states west of the Great Plains, and is present in the Rio Grande drainage of New Mexico as far south as Sierra Co (but follows that drainage no farther).
