Comments
In the Watershed, winged pigweed has been found mostly in the Upper Basin from the Baca NWR down to the San Luis Lakes. So long as the soil is sandy, the plant is not very choosy and can adapt to ruderal conditions. Cycloloma atriplicifolium has been the only member of its genus, which is indigenous to North America and spread throughout much of the USA. However, it has recently been included in the genus Dysphania (Kadereit, Sukhor, and Uotila, Taxon 70: 542, 2021). The revision has been accepted by Plants of the World and iNaturalist, but not yet by FNA or BONAP. However named, the species is located in spots down the Rio Grande drainage of New Mexico and on down through Texas to the Big Bend country.
