- Hairy bugseed is common in a fairly confined area of the Upper Basin, from the Baca NWR through the Great Sand Dunes down to the San Luis Lakes. Sandy soil seems requisite for its habitat. USA distribution is very scattered but seems most concentrated in the Rockies, from Montana down through New Mexico, following the Rio Grande drainage to the Big Bend of Texas. Note that Corespermum villosum and C. americanum are distinguished by fruit's wing, of which there seem to be integrading forms.
