- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Of desert goosefoot in the Watershed, there are only three records, widely separated: NW of Saguache (Saguache Co, 2003), WSW of Antonito (Conejos Co, 2004), and Ramaley's record labeled only "San Luis Valley, Alamosa" (Alamosa Co, 1936). Ackerfield (2015) shows Costilla and Hinsdale counties, with vouchers not found in SEINET. Chenopodium desiccatum can be found 8 miles W of Cochetopa Pass, not in the Watershed but only 11 miles W of Flaig's 2003 record from NW of Saguache. This goosefoot is recorded from most Western USA states, the western Great Plains, much of Texas, and a scattering of locations farther east. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico and Texas to the Gulf of Mexico. Note that probably the seeds are required for sure determination of C. desiccatum. Benet-Pierce and Simpson (2014) call it "one of the most misidentified taxa in North America" (2014, p. 162).
