- Of Chenopodiastrum simplex the Del Norte record is the only one from the Watershed, and the plant lasted only one season. Ackerfield, however, shows records from La Plata and Las Animas counties, on both sides of the Watershed, and there are records from northern New Mexico counties, so the species is likely to be present in the Watershed, if uncommon. The species has been recorded in all USA states except for Arizona, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. In the Rio Grande drainage, there are very scattered observations from New Mexico (Rio Arriba down to Santa Aña counties) and west Texas. Note that Fuentes-Bazan, Uotila, and Borsch (2012) created the new genus Chenopodiastrum to hold species formerly in Chenopodium with prominent mid-veins in the inside of sepals. Flowers are arranged in terminal panicles, the outside of sepals are smooth and non-keeled, and the seed is horizontal and vaguely honey-combed. In Chenopodiastrum simplex, leaves are fairly distinctive: prominently veined; shaped like a tear drop but with two to four irregular, pointed lobes; and with an inch-long stalk, at least on the largest basal leaves.
