- The distribution of thickleaf orach is confused by scientific name changes and possibly herbarium misidentifications. FNA explains the recent name reversion from Atriplex subspicata and A. patula subsp. subspicata back to A. dioica. Treating the species as A. dioica, BONAP (2022) shows Hinsdale, Mineral, Rio Grande, and Conejos counties. Treating it as A. subspicata, Ackerfield indicates Rio Grande (2015, but not 2022). SEINet shows no Watershed vouchers under any of these names. The Russel Lakes photorecord (2019) would add Saguache to Watershed counties in Ackerfield (2015, 2022) and BONAP (2022). Note that observations of the species from several locations in the Russell Lakes SWA are dated 8 Sept 2017, 7 Aug 2018, 20 Sept 2019, and 26 Sept 2019. The record of the USA distribution of A. dioica consists of scattered locations in all Western and Great Plains states. The species follows the Rio Grande drainage halfway down New Mexico but no farther.
