- Comments
- This variety of Allium geyeri, sometimes treated as a species (e.g., Allium rubrum), has been often collected in the South San Juan Mountains of the Watershed, from around Creede on south. So far Allium geyeri var. tenerum (determined as such) has not been recorded from the east side of the Valley. It is distinguished from A. geyeri var. geyeri by the presence of bulblets (bulbils) in the umbel, the few flowers being infertile, producing no seed. Allium geyeri var. tenerumis a Western USA plant, but not found in the Pacific coastal ranges. It continues on down the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico but not farther down stream into Texas.
