- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. For Juniperus virginiana there are two observations: from “Poncha Pass” (1966) and from the Baca National Wildlife Reguse (2007). The first is recorded, however, as Chaffee Co, so may have been found in the Arkansas River drainage. These vouchers may refer to J. scopulorum var. virginiana. Weber and Wittman say J. scopulorum and J. virginiana hybridize. The two Watershed locations would mark the farthest west for J. virginiana, which is wide spread in every state of the Great Plains and on east. Note that Ackerfield 2022 does not record Juniperus virginiana from Colorado, although iNaturalist shows many observation from the Front Range of the state.
