- In the Watershed Adoxa moschatellina has been recorded, infrequently, in La Garitas, the south San Juans, and the Culebras, but so far not in the Sawatch Range or the north Cristos. It mainly occurs in subalpine forests, preferring damp and shady understory. Occasionally it grows in open alpine slopes sheltered by rock outcrops. Of circumboreal spread, in the USA muskroot occurs in the Central and Southern Rockies (mainly CO, WY, MT, and north-central NM), upper midwest, and New England, always sparsely.
