- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Shore horsetail (Equisetum x litorale) is a hybrid between E. arvense and E. fluviatile. Its presence in the Watershed is based on one voucher, a juvenile plant collected in 1952 from the "Conejos Canyon," in sandy soil near the Conejos River. The determination is highly unlikely, since the hybrid requires the proximity of Equisetum fluviatile, which is distributed only in the northern third of the lower USA. Equisetum x litorale also is recorded, according to POWO, only from the same northern third. It is amusing to note that the person who transcribed the voucher for SEINet took "near river" to mean "Heat River," and "Conejos" county to mean "Honnold"—neither of which localities could be find.
