- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Lesser tussock sedge has been vouchered only once from the Watershed: in Elk Springs west of the Great Sand Dunes, in standing water. The habitat is right for Carex diandra, which like Carex limosa takes to standing water and sometimes forms floating mats in it. In the lower USA, the species is very scattered and sometimes uncommon across the Western states (but not in Nevada), and more common across the Great Lakes and New England. It is known from only one location in New Mexico, Lagunitas Lakes in Rio Arriba, and does not follow the Rio Grande drainage any farther down stream.
