- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Dryspike sedge has been one of the most frequently recorded sedges from the Watershed. It occupies a variety of habitats in all mountain ranges of the Valley, from ditch banks and mixed conifer and aspen woods in the montane to dry and wet tundra meadows. The distribution of Carex spiccata in the lower USA is disjunct, with a Western range centering on Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico, and an Eastern range spread across the Great Lakes into New England. The species follows the Rio Grande drainage two thirds of the way down New Mexico but not into Texas.
