- NEED IN SITU PHOlTOS. Ross's sedge has been recorded repeatedly from the Watershed, but almost always from the west-side mountain ranges. The one exception is a specimen found in a campsite on the Alamosita River in the Culebras (Costilla Co, 2014). This exception is an example of the tendency of Carex rossii to adapt to ruderal ground—a tendency, however, not much evidenced with other occurrences in the Watershed, where the species is usually found by creek sides or on dry slopes beside or among mixed conifer in the montane or, rarely, the subalpine. In the lower USA, Carex rossii is very common in all Western states, with uncommon occurrences around the west tip of Lake Superior. In the Rio Grande drainage, the species carries on through New Mexico but not into Texas.
