- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Teachers' sedge has been vouchered four or fives times in the Watershed, all from the South San Juans. The habitat is alpine or subalpine mesic meadows or seepage sides. An exception is the collection made southeast of Terrace Reservoir (Conejos Co, 2004) in pinyon land among rock outcrops—a determination accepted by Ackerfield (2020). In the lower UsA, Carex praeceptorum follows the Rockies from the Canadian border to Rio Arriba Co, New Mexico, with isolated locations in all the other Western states except for Arizona. The species does not follow the Rio Grande drainage farther south than Rio Arriba Co. The common name "teachers' sedge" is a translation of the Latin "praeceptorum." Note that "praeceptorum" is genitive plural, not singular, so teachers' is the correct form.
