NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Dunhead sedge has been recorded from the South San Juans region of the Watershed a number of times; e.g., tundra talus slope west of Bear Lake (Conejos Co, 2014). Carex phaeocephala has also been vouchered once from the North Sangre de Cristo Mountains: alpine talus slope near Blue Lakes (Alamosa Co, 1999); and once from the Culebras: peak and alpine ridge south of Purgatoire Peak (Costilla Co, 1999). In the lower USA, the species is present in all Western states except for Arizona. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico only as far as Santa Fe Co, no farther down stream.
