- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Grassy-slope sedge is not common in Colorado and, true to form, has only one accepted record from the Watershed: 1.5 miles west of Blue Lake in gravelly-rocky soil (Conejos Co, 1987). A second vouchered location is northwest of the town of Saguache (Saguache Co, 1999) but the determination is not accepted by Ackerfield (2020) or BONAP (2025). Carex oreocharis is found scattered and often uncommon in higher elevations of only four USA states: Arizona, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico. In New Mexico, the species, according to Allred et al. (2020), is found only in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains (Taos and Colfax counties) and the Magdalena Mountains (Socorro Co). It does not follow the Rio Grande drainage farther down stream.
