- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. So far obtuse sedge has been vouchered seven times from the Watershed, locations widely scattered, around both sides of the Valley, for instance at the head of Raspberry Canyon on an alpine ridge (Saguache Co, 1998), and in mixed conifer forest above Humphreys Lake south of Wagon Wheel Gap (Mineral Co, 2013). In the lower USA, the distribution of Carex obtusata is also scattered, spread through Utah, Arizona, the Rocky Mountains from the Canadian to the Mexican borders, the northern Great Plains, and uncommon occurrences in the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State. The species follows the Rio Grande drainage, spottily, through New Mexico from Rio Arriba and Taos counties to Sierra Co, but no farther down stream.
